Le RFUK s'est joint \u00e0 plus de 60 organisations appelant l'UNESCO et les gouvernements de l'Ouganda et de la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo (RDC) \u00e0 parvenir \u00e0 un accord pour emp\u00eacher toute exploration p\u00e9troli\u00e8re, extraction ou activit\u00e9s connexes dans les Virunga en R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo (RDC).<\/p>\n

L'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, la compagnie p\u00e9troli\u00e8re britannique SOCO International a effectu\u00e9 des tests sismiques sur le lac Edward dans le parc national des Virunga. Suite \u00e0 l'opposition locale g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e et au toll\u00e9 international, SOCO s'est engag\u00e9e \u00e0 ne plus s'impliquer dans son bloc p\u00e9trolier des Virunga et a depuis annonc\u00e9 qu'elle ne poss\u00e9dait plus la licence, sans toutefois fournir d'autres d\u00e9tails.<\/p>\n

Les organisations ont demand\u00e9 que toutes les concessions existantes ou pr\u00e9vues soient abandonn\u00e9es dans la zone qui englobe le parc national des Virunga, un site renomm\u00e9 du patrimoine mondial qui abrite de nombreuses esp\u00e8ces end\u00e9miques et menac\u00e9es, telles que le gorille de montagne.<\/p>\n
